How we work

Editorial standards.

Heat advice can get a dog hurt if it is wrong. These are the rules we hold ourselves to, and they are the reason some of our pages say less than our competitors do.

Where our information comes from

Every factual claim in our guides carries the source it came from, in the body of the article, next to the claim.

For anything legal or regulatory we cite the primary instrument itself, not a summary of it: published legislation, a municipality's own guidance, or a government tourism authority. For anything veterinary or physiological we cite veterinary research and professional bodies. For anything about a specific venue we cite that venue's own current policy.

Bodies whose published material we draw on across the site include the Royal Veterinary College, the American Animal Hospital Association, peer-reviewed veterinary literature indexed on PubMed, and the relevant UAE federal and emirate-level authorities.

What we will not publish

These are the rules that most often cost us a page, and we would rather lose the page.

  • We do not list a venue we have not verified. If we cannot find a current, primary statement of a place's pet policy, it does not go on the list, even when every other guide online includes it.
  • We do not present tolerated behaviour as permission. People regularly walking dogs somewhere is not evidence that dogs are allowed there. We say which of the two we found.
  • We do not invent precision. No made-up temperature thresholds, fee amounts, pavement readings or breed statistics. Where an exact figure matters and we could not verify one, we say so and point you at the authority who can.
  • We do not publish a simple number where the honest answer is conditional. This is why we decline to publish a green, amber and red dog-walking temperature chart. Air temperature alone does not determine whether a walk is safe, and a chart that implies it does would be the most shareable thing on this site and the most likely to get a dog hurt.

Updates and corrections

Regulations change, venues change their policies, and facilities open and close. Every guide shows the date it was last updated, and that date changes only when the content itself does.

If you find something on this site that is out of date or wrong, tell us and we will correct it and note the change. Accuracy matters more to us than looking consistent.

Veterinary sources, not veterinary advice

Our heat-safety guidance is written from published veterinary research and the guidance of professional veterinary bodies, and each article cites the sources it draws on. We are not veterinarians and we do not give clinical advice. Every guide says so, and every guide tells you the same thing: if you are worried about your dog in the heat, contact a vet.

Using our work

We publish llms.txt and llms-full.txt so that answer engines and assistants can read and quote this site accurately without crawling and rendering every page. Our robots policy permits AI crawlers.

If you quote us, please quote us accurately and link back so readers can check the sourcing for themselves. If our page is wrong, we would rather be corrected than repeated.

Independence

This site does not carry advertising or affiliate links. When we link to a business it is because it is useful to the reader, and if a commercial relationship ever applies to a page, that page will say so rather than bury it.
